Overview

Ghodbunder Road, situated in the north of Thane is one of the major residential as well as commercial locality in Thane. It is a hub for residential and commercial property development. Ghodbunder Road or G. B. Road commonly known as State Highway 42. It is now a city with sprawling flyovers, uninterrupted highways and wide roads. This road runs entirely through the district of Thane. It is one of the major road leading out of Thane City and connects to the Eastern Express Highway, becoming NH 3. It also connects to the Western Express Highway to become NH 8 at Ghodbunder Road leading to Gujarat. This road is approximately 20 km long and links the two main arterial roads of Mumbai, the Eastern Express Highway and Western Express Highway. Ghodbunder Road is lined with numerous historical monuments like the Ghodbunder Fort. Kasarvadavali, Hiranandani Estate, Thane West, Kolshet, Manpada, Kalwa, Naupada, Mulund West and East are its neighbouring localities. This road has become one of the prime real estate destinations of Mumbai Metropolitan Region due to its infrastructure links. It is considered as the satellite town of Thane and Mumbai. SH 42 leads to the historical town of Ghodbunder. GB Road, that now connects Thane to the northern suburbs of Mumbai like Borivali, at one point acted as a bridge between distant cultures.

Connectivity

The locality has excellent transport facilities. Far-off areas of G.B. Road such as Kasarvadavli, Ovala and Bhayanderpada are closely connected to Mira Road Railway Station and Borivali Railway Station, and the road is connected by city buses like BEST (Mumbai City Bus), TMT (Thane Municipal Transport), NMMT (Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport), MBMT (Mira Bhayander Municipal Transport) and VVMT (Vasai Virar City Bus).

It has excellent connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport which is located at a distance of 34 km via Western Express Highway.

Ghodbunder Road also offers very good connectivity to the extended Western suburbs on one side and the office corridors of Thane and Navi Mumbai on the other. This important transit route connects Ahmedabad highway on one end to Agra highway on the other.

Diva Junction, Mumbra, Kalva, Thane and Mulund are its nearby railway stations. However, Thane Junction is the major railway station which is located at a distance of 16.5 km via NH48.

Proposed & Planned Infra

The development authorities have planned a monorail network to serve as a feeder system to a Metro project planned in Thane.

The MMRDA has finalised a Metro corridor, extending from Wadala to Kasarvadavali on Ghodbunder Road.

MGM IT Park is an upcoming Commercial center in the area that is going to provide ample of job opportunities for the technically skilled youth.

Factors for growth

Ghodbunder Road is seeing a lot of commercial development. Apart from the coming MGM IT Park, new corporate offices and other commercial establishments such as retail outlets, malls, showrooms and banks are mushrooming all over.

The Kapurbawdi Flyover has become operational and considerably reduced traffic congestion in this region. The proposed monorail, which will connect Thane to the Western suburbs in its next phase, is yet another major draw.

Many information technology (IT) companies such as ThaneOne Corporate, Ashar IT Park , Amfotech IT Park, and Odyssey IT Park have also shifted their offices to Thane West that is turning the city into a service and tech hub.
