Wakad, Pune

Overview

Wakad located in the west of Pune Metropolitan City. It is considered as one of the fastest developing locality of Pune. It comes under the municipal limits of Pimpri-Chinchwad which offered it a full-fledged drainage system and provided electricity, water and good roads. It is the first locality to gain significantly from the IT boom in Pune. Pimple Nilakh, Pimple Saudagar, Aundh, Balewadi, Rahatani, Thergaon, Hinjewadi, Tathawade are its neighboring localities. Presence of a good amount of agricultural activities in the surrounding areas led the PCMC to take charge of Wakad, whereby the locality got electricity, water and good roads. In today’s times the civic infrastructure at Wakad is one of the best. Close proximity to the IT Park at Hinjewadi and to the Expressway has led to tremendous developmental activities in and around Wakad.

Connectivity

It is also close to three proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes, namely Nashik Phata-Wakad, Aundh-Ravet and Kalewadi phata-Dehu Alandi road. Construction of the BRT corridors is currently under progress.

Dange Chowk Road, Hinjewadi Road, Wakad Chowk Road, Datta Mandir Road, Wakad - Bhosari Road, Aundh - Ravet BRTS Road passes through the locality which further connects it to the Mumbai-Pune Bypass Road.

It enjoys excellent connectivity to Pune International Airport which is at a driving distance of 21.7 km via Aundh-Wakad Road/Hinjewadi-Aundh Road.

Kasarwaadi (9.4 km), Dapodi (10.3 km), Pimpri (7 km) , Chinchwad (7 km), Akurdi (7.6 km), Khadki (10.8) are the nearby railway station. However, both Pimpri and Chinchwad are its nearest railway station located at a distance 7 km respectively.

Factors for future growth  

With its proximity to Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the thriving IT hub of Hinjewadi, as well its accessibility from the PCMC industrial area, Wakad now attracts a lot of young end users. For this reason, it has become a new focus for property investors, as well.

In the last decade, the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation has granted the maximum number of building permissions for projects in the area to Wakad and its surrounding areas. As a result, it is seen as an ideal residential destination in Pune.

Infotech and Biotechnology park at Hinjewadi close to the Pune-Mumbai Expressway (west) have played major role in the phenomenal growth of Wakad.

Located close to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Nashik Phata-Wakad, Aundh-Ravet and Kalewadi Alandi road, Wakad enjoys great connectivity with nearby areas.

A Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is also proposed for Wakad, which will further boost the connectivity of Wakad.
