Overview

Pimple Saudagar is a suburb in Pimpri-Chinchwad. It is located in the north-western corridor of Pune and and a part of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limit. This locality comes under Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Earlier, it was an underdeveloped area but in the late 1990s, due to the vast industrialization and expansion of the Pune City. In 2001, the area was connected to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway by the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass Road. But it grown tremendously in 2003 due to the introduction of IT Park near Hinjewadi favored by IT professionals. It is situated 7.7 km from Chinchwad via Empire Estate Flyover and centered in between the suburbs of Baner and Aundh. The suburbs bordering Pimpale Saudagar are Hinjewadi to the west, Aundh to the south and Sangvi to the east. It is a well developed residential locality that attracts the newer population of the city. Other prominent localities located close to Pimple Saudagar are Rahatani, Pimple Gurav, Sudarshan Nagar, Pimple Nilakh, Wakad, Balewadi, Pimpri Gaon, Baner, Kasarwadi, Thergaon etc. The Pavana River cutting through the northern areas of the locality is the major source of water. An important addition to the infrastructure in the neighborhood has been the construction of the JRD TATA multi level flyover, by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation at Nashik Phata.

Connectivity

The area enjoys excellent connectivity through a strong network of roads and rails. PMPML buses run across the area frequently, connecting it with other areas of the city. Auto Rickshaw are also easily available. The Rainbow BRTS bus system is now operational in Pimple Saudagar.

The locality is traversed extend across by the Nashik Phata Road, connecting the area with Kasarwadi, a major road junction.

It has excellent connectivity to Pune International Airport which is located at a distance of 25 km via Lohegaon Road.

Chinchwad, Pimpri, Kasarwadi, Dapodi, Khadki are its nearby railway stations. However, Kasarwadi is the nearest railway station to Pimple Saudagar located at a distance of 6.9 km via Wakad - Bhosari BRTS Road.

The newly developed BRTS Road connecting Wakad and Nasik Phata also passes through this area. To increase road connectivity between various parts of municipal limits, PCMC proposes to implement a 30-metre wide HCMTR.

Factors for past growth

Its proximity to the Rajiv Gandhi InfoTech Park located at Hinjewadi makes it a residential hub for people working in the Information Technology industry.

This locality has massive employment opportunities that have arisen within the automobile and IT Hubs such as Pimpri-Chinchwad and Hinjewadi respectively.

The IT zones of Hinjewadi, Baner, Balewadi, Aundh and the industrial areas like Chakan, Talegaon and Nigdi are within a 5-8 kms radius of this area have driven the residential demand as well as rental demand in the locality.

Proposed and Planned Infra

Proposed HCMTR, popularly known as ring road will soon start constructing the first portion of high capacity mass transit route in Rahatni and Pimple Saudagar, which will ease travel for IT professionals living in Pimple Saudagar to Hinjewadi IT Park and Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The Centre sanctioned Rs.27 crore to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Smart City project to commence the tendering process of area-based development. The projects will be implemented in Pimple Saudagar-Pimple Gurav and Wakad areas.

The proposed Pune Metro will have a station at Pimple Saudagar.

Infra development (Social & Physical)

The locality has some of the best international schools in the city. Schools affiliated to various boards of education are also present here. Some of the famous schools here include the SNBP School Rahatani, Mount Carmel Public School, PK International English School, Wisdom World School, Challenger Public School, Kangaroo Kids Preschool, Eurokids, Holly English Medium School, Mar Ivanios Convent School, Swami Vivekanand National School. The area has some famous colleges like Jai Hind High School and Junior College, Dr. D. Y. Patil Arts, Commerce & Science College, Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College and Hospital, Indira College of Commerce and Science among few.

The locality has good options for shopping and has malls like Spot 18, City One Mall, Central Mall, Vision 9, Premier Plaza Mall, Vision Galleria Shopping complex etc. which house a number of international and national brands like Guru Prasad Retail Outlet, Reliance Digiexpress, Pantaloons, Shree Gurudev Retail Outlet, Westside, More Retail Shopping Centre, Bombay Dyeing to name a few.

The locality has a number of multi specialty, super specialty and general hospitals. Some of the famous ones here include Aditya Hospital, Lotus Multispeciality Hospital, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Shri Shakti Hospital, Shree Samarth Hospital, Bora Hospital, Pooja Hospital etc.

Major issues

Water shortage is being experienced in the recent years due to the expanding population and water usage.

Residents have to face huge traffic congestion on the Nashik Phata-Wakad BRT road during peak hours.
