Karjat Overview:-
Karjat situated in the east is a city, a sub-district, a tehsil in the Raigad district of Mumbai. It is situated on a mountainous region of Konkan Coast that spans over the Bhor Ghat, Sahyadris and Western Ghats in the Indian peninsular region. It also includes the coastal plains of the Konkan Region near Deccan and lies on the banks of the Ulhas river. The locality is well connected with Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and other parts of the state through a strong network of railways. Its well planned road network that covers Murbad, Kalyan, Kasara Ghat on one side and Khopoli, Khalapur, Neral, Ambernath, Badlapur, Panvel on the other. It is situated at a distance of 62.3 km from Mumbai and 107 km from Pune via Mumbai-Pune Highway and NH48. Ulhas River which is passing from the middle of the locality. This locality is well known for Tourism, Higher Education, Adventurous Sports, Film Shooting, Spa Hospitality, Nurseries and plantations along with several reputed Educational Institutions. Wavarle, Posari, Vadap, Vengaon, Morbe, Newali, Khandpe, Umroli are its neighboring localities.
Places to visit in Karjat:- The famous tourist attractions include Palasdari, Khandala, Lonavala, Matheran, Bhimashankar, Malshej Ghat and several dams including Bhushi, Tansa, Morbe, Lonavala and Kondeshwar Dam.
Connectivity:-
The place is well connected with Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and other parts of the state through a strong network of railways. Karjat-Neral Road and Karjat Khopoli Marg are the two major road passing through the Karjat which further connected with Karjat Murbad Road.
Karjat Railway Station, being the major rail terminus located at a driving distance of 2 km only enjoys great connectivity via local trains to CST Mumbai, Panvel and Khopoli. Karjat and Palashari are the two nearby railway stations here.
Mumbai-Pune Express Highway, Pune Highway, Goa Highway, Nashik Highway and Raigad District are very well linked to the area.
The city has a bus terminal near railway station in Bhisegaon and is well-connected to other cities via Maharashtra state passenger buses. Many private buses also provide transport service between Karjat and neighboring cities, including Mumbai and Panvel.
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport located at a distance of 82.5 km can be accessed within 2 hours 30 min via Bengaluru-Mumbai Highway.
Upcoming Infra development:-
Sea over bridge and Trans Harbor Link between Sewri, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai is projected to cut the distance between the cities and make connectivity to Karjat even better.
The Badlapur-Neral-Karjat road is being developed from a two-lane to a four-lane highway.
Also, the Karjat-Murbad Road is now a four-lane highway and part of the Virar-Murbad-Karjat-Khopoli-Alibaug Outer Ring Road.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), has been entrusted with Karjat’s town planning and implementation. Various large townships are being developed in Karjat, under the special township provisions of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act and also under Special Township Projects under section 63-I (A) of the Mumbai Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act, which provides for conversion of land of 100 acres/40 hectares, into non-agricultural type.
