Mira Road is a suburb of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region situated in the northern portion of the Salsette Island and in the northern part of the Konkan region in the state of Maharashtra. Officially, it is part of the Thane district and lies within the jurisdiction of the Mira-Bhayandar city. It is governed by the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. It is known to be rapidly developing since it offers easy connectivity to Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai and is today known as one of the fastest-growing areas of the city. Navigation, Borivali West, Dahisar East, Borivali, Uttan, Naigaon East, Navghar, Naigaon, Kasarvadavali, Thane West, Thane, Mulund West, Mulund East, and Kalwa are its localities. It is an attractive budget housing destination in Mumbai. This rapidly developing locality is situated at a distance of 43.6 km from Mumbai and is administered by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC). Mira Road and Bhayander started developing rapidly into residential hubs mainly because of the manufacturing industries close by as well as the easy connectivity to Mumbai. Most of the development has been on the eastern side of the railway line while the western side is covered by mangroves and salt pans. The western part of the city is completely made up of barren lands, where salt pans were situated in the past. In the north lies Vasai Creek, to the east Sanjay Gandhi National Park and the Uttan Coast, to the west.

  • It has excellent connectivity to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport which is located at a distance of 23.8 km via Western Express Highway.
  • Mira Road is on the western line of the Mumbai suburban railway and has easy connectivity to Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Mumbai. Mira Road, Bhayandar, Dahisar, Borivali, and Naigaon is the nearby railway stations to Mira Road. However, Mira Road is the major and nearest railway station to Mira Road located at a distance of 2 km via Station Road and NH School Road.
  • Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has its own transportation facility Mira Bhayandar Municipal transportation (MBMT). These bus services had rapid growth since the late 1990s and initially, the population was dependent on MSRTC which are the state transport buses to connect with Thane city and Manori.
  • Navi Mumbai and Thane are connected to Mira Road to Ghodbunder Road via NH-4. The western line of the Suburban Railway further boosts the connectivity of the region. The popular Nariman Point is easily accessible from Mira Road via Bandra-Worli sea link.

These projects, which include the Coastal Road Project that will extend from Nariman Point to Kandivali and the Navi Mumbai Airport, have been instrumental in driving the property prices in these areas.
  • The state government’s plans to make Mumbai an animation and gaming hub for the region will give fresh impetus to job creation and employment opportunities. This would lead to further demand for housing.
  • Under-construction Thane-Mira-Bhayander ferry under the first phase IWT is likely to be operational by the end of this year.
  • The work on the phase-2 on Thane-Mumbai and Thane-Navi Mumbai route will also be undertaken in coordination with MBPT and JNPT officials.
  • The ongoing 403 MLD Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme which has been undertaken to provide bulk water supply to Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporations as also for some rental housing schemes in the area.
