Overview

Jadavpur is a neighbourhood in south Kolkata famous for the renowned Jadavpur University. It is one of the important point in South Kolkata. A number of research institutes of national and international boards such as the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, National Council of Education, The Bengal Technical Institute are located in Jadavpur including Jadavpur Universities. It is a home to two research institutes under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research namely the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, established in 1935, and the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, established in 1950. The locality comes under Calcutta Municipal Corporation. It is bordered by Jodhpur Park and Dhakuria to the north, Tollygunge and Golf Green to the west, Santoshpur and Garfa to the east and Garia to the south. Prominent areas located close to Jadavpur are Santoshpur, Naktala, Tollygunge, Garfa, Chetla, Kalighat, Bansdroni Haridevpur, Alipore, Ballygunge etc.

Connectivity

The 8B bus terminus is the famous transport point. Today, there are various modes of public transport are available here. These are public and private buses, minibuses, taxi, rickshaws and auto-rickshaws.

Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road and Sukanto Setu are the major roads passing through the center of the locality and further links to NH12.

Lake Garden is the nearest railway station to Jadavpur which is located at a distance of 3.2 km via Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road. Other important and major railway stations from where one can get the trains for different routes and cities are Sealdah and Howrah Railway Station which is located at a distance of 9.4 km (via Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road), and 12.9 km (via Raja Subodh Chandra Mallick Road) respectively. Jadavpur railway station is in walking distance from the main crossing and is connected to the Sealdah Junction.

It has excellent connectivity to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport which is located at a distance of 24.6 km via Thakurnagar - Panchpota Road.

North-South metro of Kolkata Metro Rail is passing through the locality. Mahanayak Uttam Kumar is the nearest subway station to Jadavpur which is located at a distance of 3.5 km.
