Overview
Dwarka ia a neighbourhood located in the south-west of Delhi. It is considered as the largest largest residential suburb in Asia. This sub city is located very near to Indira Gandhi International Airport (10 km) via Dwarka Road and serves as the administrative headquarters of South-West Delhi. It is one of the sought-after residential areas in the city that organised into Cooperative Group Housing Societies. It is being developed as a smart city under Delhi Development Authority's ‘smart sub-city’ project. It is a short distance away from Gurgaon (26 km) which is a major hub for large corporations in the country. It is bounded by NH-8, Outer Ring Road, Najafgarh Road, Pankha Road Near Dabri Mor, and the Rewari railway line. Janakpuri, Hauz Khas, Rangpuri, Vasant Kunj, Uttam Nagar, Vikas Puri, New Delhi, Gurugram, Chhawla, Vasant Vihar, Delhi, Cantonment, Bijwasan, Palam Vihar are situated close to this sub-city. The sub city is now connected through metro rail to Noida (UP) and Anand Vihar and Ghaziabad (Vaishali Station). DDA has implemented the unique concept of Mixed Land Use (MLU) in Dwarka. Most of the DDA housing clusters in Dwarka have commercial buildings in close proximity. In many sectors, approximately 80% of a plot is used for residential flats and the rest 20% for commercial purpose. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi State Government's only University has its main campus located in Dwarka Sector 16-C. The campus houses University School of Law and Legal studies, one of the top law colleges in the country. Indraprastha International School is also located in Dwarka.
Connectivity
With the operational Airport Express Line, the travel time from the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro station to Airport has reduced and it takes only 10 minutes to reach airport.
It has excellent connectivity to Indira Gandhi International Airport which is located at a distance of 10 km via Dwarka Road. Connected to Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 via Sector 21 Station interchange with the Airport Express Line.
Dwarka has a robust and well connected road network built to modern specifications to each of its sectors and adjoining areas. The sub city is well connected by metro rail with the city centre and other major parts of the city by MRTS. There are a total of 8 metro stations in Dwarka.
Blue Line of Delhi Metro Rail is passing through the locality and major stations are Dwarka Mor, Dwarka, Dwarka Sec-14, Dwarka Sec-13, Dwarka Sec-12, Dwarka Sec-11, PNB Dwarka Sec-10, Dwarka Sec-9, Dwarka Sec-8, and Dwarka Sec-21 (Airport Line).
Proposed/Planned Infrastructure
Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is currently planning to establish a theme-based park, to be spread over 200 acres in sector 20.
DDA is also planning to create an 18 hole state-of-the-art golf course over an area of 173 acres in Sector 24.
Faculty of Law, University of Delhi is planning a new campus in Dwarka and will be building hostels for students and residential quarters for staff members.
New Delhi's second diplomatic enclave after Chanakyapuri to be constructed in Sectors 26 to 29 that will house embassies of at least 39 Nations, Several 5 and 7 Star Hotels including Vivanta by Taj Hotels.
Other projects underway include India's first Science and Technology Park (NSIT Campus), 7 Sports Complexes, Delhi's 5th and largest ISBT at Sector 23, Dwarka Express (commencing from Dwarka and connecting Palam Vihar and SEZS In Gurgaon to join NH-8).
The operational Dwarka-Najafgarh Metro Corridor will provide easy access to those residing in Najafgarh, Dindarpur Extension, Arjun Park, Shiva Enclave, Raghubir Nagar, and so on.
Several new proposed infrastructure projects are awaiting approvals. A monorail route from Sector 28 to Sector 1 has been proposed. This monorail route, if approved, will also connect Pankha Road, and can be extended to Delhi Cantonment and Central Delhi in the future.
Factors for future growth
The sub-city has been planned for an environment of convenience which contains essential facilities and services at different levels mainly health, education, hotel, safety and security, cultural, and communication etc.
Dwarka is home to many primary and secondary schools along with engineering and law institutes like University School of Information, Communication and Technology (GGSIPU), Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Times Institute of Management & Engineering Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management and National Law University, Delhi.
Healthcare facilities are also good in the locality. Some of the renowned hospital lies in the vicinity are Venkateshwar Hospital, Life Line Hospital, VPS Rockland Hospital, Ayushman Hospital, Khushi Hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Hospital Dwarka.
City Centre Mall, Aggarwal Plaza, Reliance Shopping Mall, Pinnacle Mall, Vardmaan Mall, Vardaman Star City Mall, and Pacific Mall located close to Dwarka nd serves the daily needs of the residents.
