CHENNAI: In an attempt to secure registration of properties accessibly, the state government is conspiring to permit all sub-registrar offices in an appropriate registration district to supervise assets that befall beneath its jurisdiction. Hitherto, sub-registrar offices can concoct only those properties that appear supporting their individual revenue jurisdiction.

Tamil Nadu, which has 37 revenue districts, is subdivided within 50 registration districts. Chennai zone is subdivided into five registration districts embracing Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Chennai, and Tiruvallur’s revenue districts.

Chennai zone, which values for 45% of the entire revenue produced in TN within property transactions is anticipated to be the most significant successor. Residents, who may possess to travel 30km from the core city areas for registering properties established on the outskirts can now do it at a sub-registrar office located adjacent to their houses.

The movement will also benefit people in Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts as the jurisdictional boundary of the Kanchipuram district registrar office covering up the whole Tiruvallur district. Cross-registration of properties from one (registration) district to another, nevertheless, it will not be allowed.

Currently, particularly district registrars have the capability to provide land registrations at any office in their (registration) district. “This is decentralization of these capabilities to sub-registrars,” another official stated. The system is currently supported beyond the Pune area in Maharashtra, sources continued.

The movement will also assist in promoting the number of property registrations in sub-registrar offices that behold some land registrations. While few sub-registrar offices execute 100 transactions through the day, others in the corresponding registration district record only several transactions. “With this facility in the community, people can approximate registration offices of their selection based on the free time slots,” a district registrar stated. This would considerably produce down the waiting time at the offices, he continued
