PMAY Application Tracking Online

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2015, was envisaged to provide “Housing for All” by 2022. Affordable housing projects are mandated to have a minimum of 35% of the houses for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The mission seeks to provide 20 million housing units across India with an objective to provide a pucca/permanent house with basic amenities to all houseless and households living in kachcha/temporary houses by 2022. Efforts are being made to streamline the process and create awareness about the project. Under the “Housing for All” initiative, the eligible applicants can track their PMAY application status online.

PMAY is being implemented in different parts of the country. The ambitious housing scheme has been categorized into two – PMAY (Urban) and PMAY (Rural). The scheme has been received positively and lakhs of people have already applied to avail the benefits of the scheme. For rural regions, PMAY beneficiaries will be identified on the basis of the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011.

Eligibility Criteria

MoHUA uses Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 for the selection of beneficiaries under PMAY. It is a logical step to maintain transparency and subsequently ensure that only the deserving candidates are provided housing aid through PMAY. The eligibility criteria outlines that:

  • Maximum age of a beneficiary can be 70 years and the allotted house should be owned by a female or can be jointly owned by a female and male.
  • The beneficiary should not own a house on his or any of his family members’ name in any part of India.
  • PMAY benefits can only be availed to construct or buy new houses, and cannot be availed on houses which are already built.
  • Candidates are allowed to construct or buy only new houses. A person cannot enjoy PMAY benefits on houses which are already built.

The PMAY Mission will be implemented through 4 channels, viz.-

In-situ Slum Redevelopment

  • Unlocks the potential of land under slums to provide houses to the eligible slum dwellers and subsequently bring them into the formal and planned urban settlement.
  • Consists of two segments, namely, “slum rehabilitation component” which can be availed by eligible slum dwellers for housing and basic infrastructure and a “free sale component” which provides developers with a free hand to sell a part of the project in the market to subsidize the project.

Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS)

  • MoHUPA introduced CLSS under PMAY for purchase/construction/extension of house for EWS/LIG/MIG housing. Credit-linked subsidy scheme was floated to muster the credit flow from financial institutions for aiding the urban poor for their housing needs.
  • EWS and LIG groups will be provided with a max. 60 sq.m carpet area with an interest subsidy of 6.5% for a maximum loan amount of 6 lakhs. Maximum subsidy availed can go upto 2.67 lakhs. The interest subsidy can be availed for a loan tenure of maximum 20 years.
  • HUDCO and National Housing Bank have been identified as the Central Nodal Agencies to monitor the scheme’s progress.

Affordable Housing in Partnership

  • This channel will provide financial assistance to build EWS houses through public and private partnerships.
  • To facilitate EWS housing, states and UTs can collaborate with private developers or public entities for providing affordable housing projects. Central assistance upto 1.5 lakh per EWS house can be availed for all EWS houses in such projects.

Beneficiary-led Individual House Construction or Enhancement

  • This medium provides assistance to EWS families to either construct new houses or enhance existing houses on their own. Such families can avail central assistance upto INR 1.5 Lac.
  • To avoid misuse or wastage of central assistance, the centre only releases assistance if the construction cost is fully covered. Beneficiaries can expect assistance in 3 to 4 installments, depending on house construction progress.
  • The government does not release assistance until the cost of construction is fully covered to avoid assistance resulting in half-constructed houses. Financial assistance will be issued to the beneficiaries in 3-4 installments depending on the progress of construction of the house.
